In the month of September, Junior Kindergarten students participate in the “All About Me” unit. The purpose of this unit is to familiarize students with their new classmates while also giving them many opportunities to share about themselves. This allows for students to become comfortable in their brand-new school environment. Not only are they building friendships with their new classmates, but their teachers are also given the opportunity to learn about what makes each child unique and what would benefit them academically and socially in the school year. Some activities that the Junior Kindergartners participated in during this unit included: sharing “All About Me” bags with items of interest from their home, making an “All About Me” collage with pictures depicting their interests, creating self-portrait puppets, and playing “Bingo” to practice matching classmate names with faces.
